About

I am:

  • a red-headed stepchild.
  • recently married.
  • a constant tour guide and cultural interpreter to my Mexican husband in his first year in Los Estamos Jodidos.
  • an honorary Yucatec Maya (as per my sister-in-law)
  • a former expat who lived in Mexico for 5 years.
  • slowly, ever so slowly, working towards my Master’s in Professional Writing
  • the Program Manager for a Youth Center at the Woodlawn Community Development Corporation.

I adore reading, writing, and thinking about stuff.

I can’t sleep if I don’t read in bed before lights out time, which drives Homeboy insane.  I also sneak out to buy bargain books and have actually dug through the trash to score some paperbacks in English. (I lived in Cancun before they opened a used bookstore there.)

I didn’t start learning Spanish until I was 21, but now spend most of my waking (and dreaming hours) wrapping my tongue around this lovely, complex language.

In fact, I argue much better in Spanish than I do English.

I’m endlessly curious about things I already know as well as things that I’ve yet to discover.

I feel uncomfortable starting so many sentences with I.
